Smart charging FAQs

Still have questions?
Will my Tesla be compatible with an Evnex charger?

Yes. Every Evnex charger works with every Tesla model sold in New Zealand, including the Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X. Just plug in and you're set.

How fast will an Evnex charger charge my Tesla?

Every Evnex charger charges right up to your Tesla's onboard limit. The Model 3 and Model Y can accept up to 7.4 kW on single-phase power, which our E2 range is built for. If you've got three-phase power at home, the X22 lets your Tesla draw its full 11 kW, cutting a fair chunk off your charging time.

Does Evnex offer three-phase charging for the Model 3 and Model Y?

Yes. The X22 is our three-phase charger, and it works with the Model 3 and Model Y's built-in three-phase onboard charger to charge at up to 11 kW. That's well beyond what a single-phase charger can deliver, though you'll need three-phase power connected to your home to take advantage of it.

What's the difference between the E2 Flex and the E2 Core?

The E2 Flex is our entry-level charger, built for grid-only charging with an upgrade path to solar later. The E2 Core comes solar-ready from day one, automatically diverting excess solar straight into your Tesla.

Can I add solar to the E2 Flex later? How does that work and how much does it cost?

Yes. The E2 Flex comes without solar smarts, but you can add this for a one-time fee of $349. The upgrade to solar is a software update, so there's no need for an electrician to return to your home and tinker with the charger again.

If you're planning on getting solar soon, we'd recommend purchasing an E2 Core or E2 Plus, as these come with solar smarts built in.

Does Evnex handle installation for Tesla owners, and what's included?

Yes. Book installation and a registered Evnex installer handles the whole job, typically in a couple of hours. You'll get an itemised quote upfront so you know exactly what's included before your Tesla is charging from home.

What's the warranty on an Evnex charger for my Tesla?

Every Evnex charger comes with a 4 year warranty, covering your Tesla's home charging setup for years to come. It's longer than most because we stand by our New Zealand engineering.

Does my Tesla use the same charging connector as other EVs?

Yes. Every Tesla sold in New Zealand uses the CCS2 charging standard, the same connector used across most other EV brands here. That means an Evnex charger's Type 2 connector plugs straight into your Tesla with no adapter needed.

Does Evnex integrate directly with my Tesla app?

Yes. Connect your Tesla account in the Evnex app and you'll see your car's real battery level right there, plus you can use the action button on your charger to pop open your charge port or unlock the cable without touching your phone. This integration is available on the E2 Plus and X-Series, including the X22, but not on the E2 Core or E2 Flex.

What is home overload protection?

Home overload protection is a built-in safety feature that keeps an eye on your home's total power draw. If everything from your oven to your Tesla is running at once, Evnex automatically manages charging so your switchboard never gets overloaded.
