Why use solar?

With unused solar energy you can charge your EV for free.

Solar export must exceed 1.5 kW for the E2 Core, and E2 Plus.

The X22 will start single-phase solar charging once export exceeds 1.5kW. Once there is more than 4.5kW of export the charger will switch to three-phase solar charging.

Three-phase solar

Larger solar systems might export unused solar energy on all three phases of your home's power.

Our three-phase X22 charger monitors your export to efficiently and safely divert the maximum available energy to your EV.

Smart scheduling

Charge with solar by day and grid by night.

With the Evnex app, you can set your EV to charge from solar alone, from a mix of solar and the grid, or set it to charge for off-peak power hours.

Tailor your charge and get maximum savings with a combination of solar and off-peak charging.

Put batteries first

If you have a home battery, it will take solar first; then the charger automatically captures any remaining export for your EV.

That means you finish the day with a full battery and as much solar-powered charging as possible.

Most systems let you set non-discharge periods, so you only use the battery’s energy when you want to.

Control solar charging from your phone

Manage solar diversion and other smart charging features that let you charge, save, and go green with a tap.

Optimise your charge

Charge your vehicle with 100% excess solar energy*, power from the grid, or a mix — simply set your thresholds in the app.

Set your schedules

After the sun sets, make the most of off-peak or free energy rates by scheduling your EV to charge at specific times.

FAQs

Do all Evnex chargers support solar charging?

Our E2 Core, E2 Plus, and X-Series models include solar integration. The E2 Flex is designed for grid-only homes but can be upgraded for solar later if needed.

Do Evnex chargers support net metering?

Yes. When charging under Solar Diversion, our X-series chargers can look at the total excess across all three phases to determine how much power is available to divert to the car.

This means that our single-phase X7 charger can monitor up to three phases and use the net total to trigger solar diversion, alongside the fully three-phase X22.

Will an Evnex charger be compatible with my home solar?

Our chargers are compatible with any solar system, home power supplies, and all electric vehicles across New Zealand.

What is the minimum solar export threshold before I can charge?

For a single-phase charger (the E2 or X7) the minimum export must be above 1.5kW for over 60 seconds. The X22 has a minimum of 1.5 kW for single-phase solar charging, or 4.5kW for three-phase solar-only charging.

This is because the minimum current that an AC charger can offer to a car is 6A, which means that for single-phase charging the minimum consumption is ~1.4kW and for three-phase charging ~4.2kW.

Values may be different if you have a home battery.

Do you offer installation, and what's included?

Yes, we install our chargers throughout Australia and New Zealand. Our network of local, friendly, professional electricians is well-trained on our products and can offer expert advice on all of your charging needs.

Following your installation, we'll provide ongoing support — whether you're an EV driver, business owner, or fleet manager.
